Swedish forestry innovation in top at Nordic and Baltic Cleantech competition

Today, AirForestry, a new technology for thinning forests from the air, announces that the company has been named as one of a total of 25 innovation companies in the Nordic CleanTech 2022 competition organized by Cleantech Scandinavia. With over a hundred applications from eight markets, AirForestry is the only company in the forestry industry to be nominated in this year's edition.

AirForestry's method for forest thinning has several advantages for both the climate, the environment and the forestry companies. The thinning drone and tools are powered by electricity and use the force of gravity for efficient thinning. Compared to conventional methods, the method uses 50 percent less energy per thinned tree. For the forest companies, occupational injuries from the operation of heavy machinery can be eliminated while the work becomes more efficient.

"Forests and forestry are one of the most important pieces of the puzzle to ensure a sustainable future. Today, Swedish forests collect twice as much carbon dioxide as the total emission in Sweden. With the help of new technology, we can make an entire industry fossil-free, meanwhile contributing to more efficient forestry that is better both for the forest owners and the climate. Being named as one of 25 innovations is proof that we are on the right track", comments Olle Gelin, CEO and co-founder of AirForestry. kommenterar Olle Gelin, CEO and co-founder of AirForestry.

The final of Nordic CleanTech 2022 will be held in Oslo, Norway on October 25-26 this year. The aim of the competition is to bridge the gap between startups, new climate innovations and venture capital.

"It’s the third year that I organize this competition and the diversity and quality of startup solutions to address climate change just get better and better", says Laura Fostinone, Ventures and Innovation Manager at Cleantech Scandinavia. säger says Laura Fostinone, Ventures and Innovation Manager at Cleantech Scandinavia.
